Camera webcams are used for many purposes, but the most popular is to catch people in the act of doing something they are not actually doing. For those who are not familiar with them there are basically two types - one of those which actually records the activity (which is called a "hard-wired" camera) and one of those which operate using an "analog" camera - one that takes the pictures and transmits them to a monitor/receiver that is connected to the internet. In order to view these cameras live over the internet you need a special receiver/webcam. These webcams are connected to a special IP network (Internet Service Provider). They can connect to the internet anywhere in the world. Because the cameras are connected to the internet through the IP network, they are virtually open to view over the world wide web. This can be a great service for you, because you don't need to be right there to be able to view the action!

If your camera has motion activated, it will record any changes in its view. The view recorded will be stored on its internal hard drive for later use. The quality of the recorded images will depend on how good your camera's optics are. You will usually be able to preview the captured images in their native format if you're unsure about the quality or if you're simply interested in seeing how other people have viewed your live cameras.
